Kanawha State Forest, WV. 11 Sep 2012

We were aiming to get to Charleston today but we stopped just as we entered West Virginia and went for a hike… well more of a stroll down the Greenbrier River Trail just off the highway and the water looked so good that we just had to get in. We made it to Kanawha State Forest that night which was a really great camping spot right in the woods off a dirt road. There was only a few other people there and it felt like we were deep in the forest yet were only about 12 miles off the highway.

The next day we began our trek through 5 states to St louis. We started in West virginia and drove through Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois and into Missouri. We stopped for lunch at the Smokey Valley Truck Stop, just out of Olive Hill, Kentucky. We had seen it on the Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives app and thought we’d check it out. It was cheap and the burgers were massive but I wouldn’t rate them at all. Apparently their famous for their coconut cream pie but I’m not really a desert person so…
